3X3W CREE LED Halogen Replacement Downlight Globes

8W EcoOnline LED

Don't suffer with dim old energy hungry Halogens - swap them for new super efficient LED globes. Our bright globes are a genuine Halogen match - using only premium brand name components for maximum longevity and light quality. Reproduce a beautiful and enticing ambiance using our extra warm white 2800K globe or chose our 3000K globe if you prefer that contemporary look. These 8W (max) globes have a light output that's about 80% of a Halogen and produce 60% more light than small leading brand "CREE 3x3W (9W)" MR16 globes. Check out our new interactive FLASH calculator and see for yourself how your savings can grow over time.

Testimonials (2800K Version)
  • "... these bulbs are the best I've found for output, colour temperature, beam angle and price..." For full review click here.
  • "I have actually tried about 4 different brands of LED halogen replacements but all of the others have a green/blue colour tint. Your lights are not only the brightest but the colour matches the halogens. You cannot tell the difference between the 50w halogen and the 8w LED." Andy Furniss, Manly NSW
  • "I am delighted with the 8 watt LEDs from EcoOnline. These globes are a real alternative to energy sucking halogens."  Tim, Mt. Eliza VIC

LED Light Recommendations

We believe our 3X3W CREE LED globes provide a genuine Halogen alternative for downlight fixtures without needing to sacrifice on lighting quality. We can recommend the following for our globes:
  • Combine our LED lights with Warm White compact fluorescent table or stand lamps to providing background lighting for larger living areas.
  • For maximum cost effectiveness replace only Halogens that are left on most often.
  • Best used where beam can be directed onto white surfaces for maximum efficiency.
  • Use our 30 Watt LED driver or a transformer specifically made for LEDs or the Nelson MTN50C/MT50C or the Atco TM50-2 iron core (or electromagnetic) transformers for rock-solid flicker-free operation.
  • When connecting multiple globes to a transformer leave some spare capacity for higher power future LEDs.
  • Our globes are DIMMABLE (but only up to 50 percent for flicker free operation) using the Atco TM50-2 iron core transformer and a universal Clipsal dimmer switch.
FACTS about LED Lights

LED lights are the future of lighting, make no mistake. Compared to Halogens they are more efficient, last longer, result in smaller home cooling bills and practically eliminate the risk of fire, however we need to clarify some misinformation:
  • LEDs produce 5 times the light output per Watt compared to Halogens. To achieve a 50Watt equivalent light output LED globes have to run at a minimum of 10Watts.
  • LED diodes produce more light and last longer if they run at a lower temperature, that's why it's important to choose an appropriate downlight fixture.
  • Some companies falsely exaggerate their bulbs power as 3x3W (9W), however the smaller MR16 housing/heat sink can only handle 5W at mos. All 3X3W CREE MR16 LED globes only run at around 5W. Our larger heat sink globes can and do run higher at 8W and produce around 40W of equivalent Halogen light. That's 60% more light than 3x3W (9W) globes with the smaller MR16 housing.
  • LEDs do have a harshness to them due to their light spectrum, which is why we have spent so long handpicking and matching our LEDs for an optimal soft colour and maximum light output.
  • Some companies claim 50,000 even 100,000 hours lifetimes, while this is true technically, in reality LEDs lose brightness over time the rate of which is depended on their running temperature and the quality of the LEDs. This is why it is important to choose the highest quality diodes such as the American manufactured CREE LEDs and to keep them cool using air flow and superior large heat sinks.

Do's and Don't for our LED Globes

  • DO check that the larger 3X3W globe fits into your downlight fixture, we recommend this globe if you can get away with it.
  • DO use the recommended transformers and dimmers.
  • DO have your transformers fitted by a licensed electrician.
  • DO install in downlight fittings with sufficient airflow to safeguard your investment. Allow at least 3cm clearance around the globe when back filling insulation.
  • DON'T install in a closed fixture or cover the globe with insulation, remember a cool running LED globe is important for maximum longevity.
  • DON'T connect LED globes to standard Halogen electronic transformers.
